These lovely mugs are handmade and incorporates underglaze decals on the outside to create the beautiful bird design. These mugs are “seconds” they have been discounted because the rutile blue glaze application was applied thin and instead of resulting in a blue lip and liner glaze, the glaze colour is predominately a contrasting, earthy brown. Each piece measures approximately 12 cm tall and will hold approximately 14 to 16 oz. of your favorite warm beverage.

The glazes are lead free and food safe. The product is also microwave and dishwasher safe.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

Thank you so much for your interest, it means the world to me that you stopped by!

This mug was made from a beautiful, white, Canadian stoneware clay and thrown by hand on the pottery wheel. After throwing, trimming, and attaching a hand-pulled handle, each piece is slowly dried and cleaned before it is fired for the first time. Each piece is carefully decorated by hand and stamped with the Willow and the Wolf mark.

The decoration part of the process can be somewhat lengthy; involving the addition of underglaze transfers and multiple glazes to reach the complex layering effect and beautiful range of colors. Each mug is unique as each application involves some randomness and the firing process really plays with the colors and movement of the glazes.

After the designs and glazing are complete, mugs are re-fired to cone 6 in my home studio which also doubles as a bike shed and tool storage facility (very fancy). It is this high firing temperature (2100 - 2200 degrees) that gives the glaze a glossy shine and ensures the durability of each piece of functional ware.
